Join us for a screening of an important documentary, Dawnland, which investigates Indigenous child removal in our neighbor state of Maine and opens up a conversation regarding equality, human rights, and Indigenous freedom. The film chronicles the first government-sanctioned truth and reconciliation commission (TRC) in the United States which gathered testimonies to bear witness to the devastating impact of Maine’s child welfare practices on Wabanaki families. The film will be followed by a Q&A with the film’s learning director, Mishy Lesser, who developed a teacher’s guide and a viewer’s guide to accompany the film that each work to encourage discussion both in the classroom and at home. Take a look at the Viewer's Guide for more info.
